Credentialing Process
The credentialing protocols for the Duke University Health System (DUHS) have been designed to meet the standards of The Joint Commission,  the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the Bylaws of the Medical Staff and any other regulatory body or organization. (See Online Training and Help).   The Duke University Health System is comprised of Duke University Hospital , Durham Regional Hospital , Duke Raleigh Hospital and Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center .

Duke University Hospital (DUH) has a closed medical staff requiring faculty appointment in the School of Medicine . If your department has determined that you are to participate in patient care activities, the department will provide you with the application and other related materials to facilitate the credentialing process. Each medical staff department has a designated credentials contact who will work directly with you throughout this entire process.   Because of delegated credentialing agreements with the Primary Diagnostic Clinic (PDC) and the managed care organizations that contract with DUHS, you will be submitting a single application that, when completed, will credential you for all the various entities delegating to Duke.

Although Durham Regional Hospital (DRH), Duke Raleigh Hospital (DRaH) and Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center (DASC) are separate facilities with their own individual medical staff bylaws and organizations, DUHS has centralized the credentialing effort for your convenience.    If you are instructed by your department to request privileges at these any of these facilities, you will need to work with your departmental credentials contact to request materials from the individual medical staff offices. All DUHS facilities use the same application, and we do share information between the DUHS entities. Applications are submitted to the Credentialing Verification Office for processing. DUH, DRH, DRaH and DASC do maintain a separate review and approval process and notification of privileges granted are issued each individual facilities.

The Credentialing Verification Office staff are available between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily to respond to any questions you may have about the credentialing process. We are here to assist you navigate through this process and may be reached at (919) 684-4022.
